In Chinese culture, people like to be modest or self-effacing. For example, if you compliment a Chinese lady: You are very beautiful. Traditionally, the lady will answer you: No, no, I'm not beautiful.

Do you think Chinese people are hypocritical?

I don't think so.

Modesty is a virtue! So many people have lost it. Everyone likes a humble person with respect to others.

Chinese people are traditionally very modest. However, they've begun to lose it in modern society. I wish Chinese people can keep this excellent virtue.
